Women History Month
Women empowerment is of great importance to me, professionally and personally. Which is what made this project so special to me. I asked to take the lead on coordinating the Jets Women's History month panel that highlighted historic women in the Jets organization that created an impact for women in sports. I not only did extensive online research but also pulled archive files and information not yet shared with the public. My goal was to find women who worked for the organization during different decades to speak on their experience and how much growth they have seen since then. The panel featured Helen Dillion, the first woman executive in professional football as part owner of the Jets for 16 years; Connie Carberg, the first female scout in NFL history who started her career with the Jets in 1974; and Dawn Aponte, who first joined the Jets in 1991 and was the first chief administrator and highest ranked woman in NFL football operations.
I coordinated with these impactful women on timing and arrival to visit the facility and share their story with the rest of the organization. I created an advisory to distribute among the organization to hear these women speak and give them the opportunity to ask questions. After the panel, women within the organization were offered the opportunity of a personalized photoshoot to be represented as an impactful woman within this organization. It was a very special moment to highlight women in sports during Women’s History Month.
